Stanley Cup to Visit Hermosa Beach
The miss-adventures of the silver behemoth, known as the Stanley Cup, will bless Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza this Monday June 25th in honor of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings. So far, the Stanley Cup has led a full life and its championship traditions are legendary. Like a well written Hollywood script, each winning player and management member get a chance to spend a day or two with the Cup to share with friends and family. Most of the time the Cup floats through Main Streets and various pubs with poise and dignity, but sometimes it falls prey to intoxicating moments of weirdness and bachelor party style situations. Reportedly, the Cup has been to a strip bar called Scores, spent the night at the bottom of Mario Lemieux's pool, and was stolen for a moment during the 1962 playoffs. At 11 a.m., probably too early for bar-hopping, the Stanley Cup will be driven down Pier Avenue by the Hermosa Beach Fire Department where it will be part of a public rally in Pier Plaza beginning at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Call in late for work on Monday or take an early lunch to watch the Hermosa Beach City Council and Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce make a congratulatory presentation to Center, Jarret Stoll of Los Angeles Kings on their first championship in franchise history. The Stanley Cup will be on display during the ceremony on stage and fans can bring their cameras to document some fabled Stanley Cup history. Individual photos with the Stanley Cup will not be available at this event.
Around 11:45 a.m., the Cup makes a tour along South Bay's most sacred version of Main Street. The cup will be driven from the strand on Hermosa Beach Pier all the way to the Hermosa Beach/Manhattan Beach border. Fans have a unique opportunity to witness and take photos of the Stanley Cup as it soaks up some South Bay sun while traveling on the strand before it embarks on yet another storied adventure.
