Swell Magnet Surf Forecast

Thursday morning will be the beginning of the end as the surf continues it's downward spiral. Bring a book or magazine to read between sets as the consistency continues to fade along with the swell size. We should see waist high plus sets with some sporadic, larger waves at the most exposed beaches.

Friday morning looks even smaller, but there will be a little meat left on the bone at the better South facing beaches. The better breaks will see waist high plus sets with the rogue, chest high set sneaking through every now and then. Once again, plan to wait around for the waves...it may be on the verge of painful. The conditions look a little better with a lighter onshore flow at 1-2 MPH, out of the SW, until 10AM and stronger winds, to 13 MPH, in the afternoon.

Saturday morning looks "no bueno", as pretty much everywhere has only tiny morsels of leftover, SW energy. Knee to waist high and inconsistent will be the rule and unfortunately it looks like there's no new swell coming anytime soon. The conditions look similar with a continued onshore flow at 2-4 MPH until 11AM and stronger 9-11 MPH winds in the afternoon.

Sunday morning looks even more bleak with knee high plus surf most everywhere. Sorry folks, it's time to check some luggage and get out of Dodge. The conditions should be tolerable with light onshore winds at 2 at first light and getting up to 13 MPH in the afternoon. The current water temps are as follows - Newport 66 degrees, Huntington 66 degrees, the South Bay showed as 63 degrees, Santa Monica 65 degrees and Malibu 63 degrees.

Leon Russell @ Brixton: Saturday, July 10, 2010

Leon Russell performs this Saturday, July 10 at Brixton on the Redondo Beach Pier! The ultimate rock & roll session man, Russell's long and storied career includes collaborations with a virtual who's who of music icons spanning from Jerry Lee Lewis to Phil Spector to the Rolling Stones. A similar eclecticism and scope also surfaced in his solo work, which couched his charmingly gravelly voice in a rustic yet rich swamp pop fusion of country, blues, and gospel. His own hits include - Delta Lady, Tight Rope and Lady Blue.

EL TARASCO
S.B.E.'S RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH: JULY

Mexican food is to Southern California what lobster is to Maine, or what gumbo is to the South. People here take their burritos and tacos very seriously and debate rages as to which establishments dish out the best comida. We are fortunate here in the South Bay to have some of the most authentic and delicious Mexican restaurants around. Having said that, there are a few that rise to the top, and most locals would agree that El Tarasco in Manhattan Beach serves up some of the best dishes in town.

Known (legitmately) as a "hole in the wall", don't plan on going there with a group of people expecting to sit down for a meal. On the contrary, there is a single bar that seats 6 or 7 customers with no tables to be seen. Whether you order carry-out or decide to rub elbows with Mexican food aficionados, you're going to El Tarasco for the food, not the atmosphere.
