Swell Magnet Surf Forecast

Hurricane watch: Tuesday, August 24, 2010 9:30AM Tropical Storm Frank has gathered a little more strength and is again forecast to become a Category 1 Hurricane in the next 24-36hrs. Tropical Storm Frank is currently about about 145 miles SW of Acapulco and 757 miles SE of Cabo San Lucas

Thursday morning looks like another winner, as the swell continues to serve up shoulder high to overhead sets at the best spots. It will be a little smaller than Wednesday, as the swell starts a very slow decline through the day, but there will be tons of surf left.

Friday morning will take another slight dip in size, but remain in the shoulder to head high plus zone. This South swell has a lot of steam to it so the fade will be slow, as the waves continually grow smaller and the time gaps between sets grows longer. It should be another GOOD day for waves. It looks like the Santa Barbara Channel will start to blow on Thursday night, (high 20's - low 30's), so that should throw a little wind swell into the mix for Friday morning too.

Saturday morning will take another slight dip in size, but remain in the chest to shoulder high zone on the sets, for the best South facing beaches. Once again, it looks like we have a shot at some waist high plus wind swell too.

Sunday we'll have remnant, SW energy, NW wind swell and some new, steeply angled, S/SW energy. The best spots in the OC could see waist to shoulder high sets. We'll also have to see how the TS Frank scenario plays out. He looks to head into our swell window, but with what type of ferocity? We'll keep an eye on it.

Off to score some waves ;) This is M.D., the Surf Dr., delivering more hollow promises.

Dead Mans Party - A Tribute to Oingo Boingo: Friday, August 27

The World's Best Tribute To Oingo Boingo!

Halloweens were no longer acceptable since Oingo Boingo called it quits in '95; the holiday would never be the same without them. Because of this, Dead Man's Party, the Oingo Boingo tribute band began to form in the later part of 2000, beginning the endeavor to re-create the Halloween cheer that so many other Southern Californians had come to know as Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party."

Playing at Brixton on the Redondo Beach Pier this Friday night. For more information head over to South Bay Events!

COYOTE CANTINA
S.B.E.'S RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH: AUGUST

One of the best-kept secrets in the South Bay is the Coyote Cantina in Redondo Beach. Don't let the mundane strip-mall setting fool you: once inside, it feels like you've stepped into a cantina in the middle of Oaxaca. The food menu is amazing, with varied offerings such as the Brie and Mango Quesadilla and Turkey Jalapeno Enchiladas. Plus, with over 60 of the world's best tequilas to choose from, you'll never be bored by the vast selection.

A South Bay Events Insider tip: try the Silver Lightning Margarita, which is made with a double shot of Herradura l00% Blue Agave Tequila with a Gran Marnier or Gran Galla floater. One should be plenty to get your night moving and to get your appetite built up. You will want to go to Coyote Cantina hungry, as the southern Mexico cuisine is some of the best and most authentic in Los Angeles. The portions are large and the selection is varied- the restaurant is one of the few Mexican restaurants in the South Bay consistently rated highly by Zagat.
