Swell Magnet Surf Forecast

Thursday morning looks to be no better with continued knee to waist high background swell and small NW wind swell. Even the most exposed beaches won't offer up much more than the occasional longboard wave. We should see some longer interval NW energy start to show very late in the day with hopefully some telltale signs by the Friday morning.

The conditions should be good again, with winds out of the NE/NNE at 5-10 MPH early and turn mild out of the West for the afternoon. Even though there's really no surf to speak of it should be another nice afternoon with a high of 69 degrees on the sand.

Friday morning will be our next shot at any legitimate waves. Although far from a surf bonanza, some fresh, long interval swell out of the NW will move in through the day and put the most exposed NW breaks into the shoulder to head high zone on the sets.

Tides and winds should cooperate, but it sure would be nice to shake this 55 degree water nonsense! Global warming? I figured by 2011 my neoprene would be a distant memory and I would be feasting on Dorado and Yellowfin tuna that I caught off Marina Del Rey!

The conditions should be great, with brisk winds out of the NE/NNE at 8-12 MPH all day and even blow a little stronger below the passes and canyons. The air temp is slated to hit a, (comparatively speaking), balmy, 72 degrees.

Saturday morning should be even a little bigger as the NW ground swell increases into the head high plus zone. On paper, that sounds good, but with a conspicuous absence of sand bars our beach breaks may not fair so well. Block long closeouts seem to be norm with anything above 14 second intervals. There should also be some small pulses out of the South but that energy will likely lack the muscle to break up the long interval swell.

By Sunday morning things will begin to taper off as the swell drops off through the day. The dawn patrol hours should still be dishing up chest to shoulder high sets so it'll definitely be worth a look. The high tides will have come full circle again so things may be a little baggy at first light.

The conditions will be fair as the winds calm a bit. We'll see breezes out of the NE at 5-8 MPH until around 12:00PM and light Westerly winds until sundown. The air temp will drop back down to 65 degrees.
