Don't miss the lineup of the best part of summer in the South Bay! Upcoming events include the 6-Man Volleyball Tournament & International Surf Festival as well as the AVP Hermosa Beach Open and the Fiesta Hermosa on Labor Day! Besides the major events going on, Jay Leno is back performing each Sunday as well as an awesome lineup of solid music acts. The summer is just kicking into gear, so make sure you don't miss out on anything going on.



AVP HERMOSA BEACH OPEN VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT THURSDAY- SUNDAY, AUGUST 6-9

In the middle of this scorchingly hot summer, another volleyball tournament is here to excite South Bay's local fans. This tournament, however, is probably the most widely known and famous tournament of them all. Hermosa Beach's AVP Beach Volleyball Tournament represents most of South Bay's best sport's stars, including Phil Dalhausser, Todd Rogers, Sean Rosenthal, and Jake Gibb. The biggest news is the return of HB local Kerri Walsh to the AVP circuit. This extremely popular weekend, right in the beginning of August, is sure to attract hundreds upon thousands of people from all over to watch the tournament, drink at the bars, and soak in the sun.

So if you're looking to travel down to Hermosa this upcoming weekend, make sure to plan accordingly: bring towels, sunscreen, cash, and your competitive spirit! Also, you may want to plan on traveling down there in something other than a car because everywhere around Hermosa is going to be packed to the max. It is going to be an absolute madhouse, so come prepared! Head over to S.B.E. for more information regarding this awesome event.

 

TICKET GIVEAWAYS @ SAINT ROCKE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 6 & SATURDAY, AUGUST 8

South Bay Events and Saint Rocke are giving away TICKETS to Thursday's B Foundation and Saturday's Particle's shows!

The B Foundation is known for its surf roots, rock, and reggae style music. The 4-man band has already released 3 albums, the newest of which, Souvenirs, Novelties, and Party Tricks, is on its way out worldwide, and available September 1, 2009. The B Foundation's music has been heavily influenced by other well-known, kick-ass bands, such as Pepper, Sublime, and Slightly Stoopid. Come see them rock at Saint Rocke before they leave the immediate area!

Particle will be headlining at Saint Rocke, Saturday night. Among their special guests will be Raul Pacheco of Ozomatli. An electronica, funky, jam band formed in 2000, Particle has performed hundreds of shows in many different countries and is now here in the South Bay, ready to perform for all of their fans...



 

S.B.E.'S RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH: LA PLAYITA!

Hermosa's Mexican restaraunt, La Playita, is our winner of the Restaurant of the Month award! Located along the edge of a nicely groomed green park on 14th Street in Hermosa Beach, La Playita is known for some of the best Mexican food in the area. Diners may choose to eat indoors or on the outdoor patio that overlooks the nearby sands of Hermosa beach. In the summertime, especially, the open patio at La Playita is a key location to relax and enjoy a nice cool ocean breeze, while drinking an ice-cold drink and eating a delicious burrito after a long, hot day on the beach.

Another great thing about this restaurant is that it is open extra early in the morning, serving breakfast for all those early risers. And it's not just Mexican breakfast burritos and Huevos Rancheros that's being served; there is also a variety of American breakfast food, like the Long Boarder Special and French Toast, for those who take a more traditional breakfast route. As for the lunch and dinner menu, the fish tacos and the Chicken Ranchera Enchiladas are some of the house favorites at La Playita. An exciting new development with the restaurant is that recently they were granted their Full Liquor License, so now you can order yourself a blended margarita, complete with salt and lime.

Make sure you make your way over to this local cafe and try out some of the tasty dishes while the weather is still prime!
